On Folio 1 side (i) a plan and elevation of a doorway with a balustrade over it. The arched doorway has two Doric pilasters on pedestals and a cartouche in place of a keystone. On side (ii) of Folio 1 is the continuation of the elevation of the doorway. On Folio 2 side (i) is the plan of the doorway and on Folio 2 side (ii) a small, roughly sketched elevation of a rusticated arcade.

This drawing is part of the Vanbrugh Album. The Album contains 254 drawings and includes works by Sir John Vanbrugh, Sir Edward Lovett Pearce, William Talman, Nicholas Hawksmoor, Richard Castle and anonymous draughtsmen in Vanbrugh's office. It was created ca. 1945-54 and was purchased by Victoria and Albert Museum in 1992.

  • Inscribed in ink on Folio 1 side (i) with the scale 'Braccia otto a Panno Fiorentine'.
  • Inscribed on the back I must stay till my man comes back from London upon a message I sent him thither. and his time being uncertain I will not make you stay for me but shall follow (God willing) tomorrow morning. I have some affairs to adjust with James which must also be done tonight. I am most sincerely yours etc N Hawksmoor Saturday noon. (Inscribed on the back.)

Part of the Vanbrugh Album, which was purchased in 1992 with the aid of the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the National Art Collections Fund, The Monument Trust, The Sainsbury Trust, and an anonymous donor.
