Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This red overjacket was especially commissioned by the Victoria and Albert Museum in the early 1990s to form an ensemble with a robe that had been in the Museum’s collection since 1919. Such an outfit would have been worn for an audience with the king or for an auspicious event at the Korean court. The overjacket was made by one of the few tailors in Seoul still able to provide the hand-woven and dyed fine silk gauze used in traditional court costume.
