Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This late Choson period (1392-1910) vase is decorated with flying phoenixes in underglaze cobalt blue and highlighted with copper red painting. During this time local kilns produced many vessels decorated in either iron or copper alone, but the combination of these colouring agents with cobalt-blue was mainly restricted to wares made at the central official kilns in the Kwangju area south of Seoul. It was only towards the end of the dynasty that local kilns made wares which combined these colours.
