Bottle

918-1392 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Dating to the Koryo period (AD 918 -1392), this bottle's surface is extremely corroded due to prolonged contact with soil. It is likely to have been unearthed from a grave belonging to a member of the Koryo aristocracy, who were typically buried with ceramic and bronze wares. During this period the production of bronze wares flourished and the best examples date to about the 12th century. They were used for ceremonial and daily use and range from elaborately decorated kundika (water sprinkler) to simple bowls, bottles, mirrors, spoons and chopsticks.
