Bullet Through Plexiglass
1962, printed 1970-1989
44 x 37cm
Museum no. E.579-1997
Given by the Edgerton Family Foundation
Edgerton was an electrical engineer who invented the strobe light. He used it mostly to capture rapid motion with camera-made photographs that recorded his experiments. Here, however, the exposure of less than one microsecond was made directly onto a sheet of film. It records the silhouette of the bullet shattering the Plexiglass, shockwaves and hot gasses, and marks where Plexiglass shards punctured the film. |
