Object history
These illustrations are from the third collection produced by Kate Clarkson label, which was based around a nautical theme. Clarkson initially worked in miniature, and selected sketches were then enlarged to a more workable size by photocopying them. These images were developed into a final design, with the addition of colour, fabric swatches and various notes.

The central illustration evolved into the garment depicted in the photograph E.111-1997, by Merle Moustafa, using a different colourway. This outfit is also depicted in the illustration by Steve Toms, E.101-1997.
