Place of origin

In 1970 Roger P. Saunders was a student at Brighton College of Technology, where he managed to install a copy of the ART 1 computer program originally developed by Richard Williams at the University of New Mexico in 1969. ART 1 was also used by the American artists Katherine Nash and Frederick Hammersley.

Saunders subsequently created PLAD 1, a Programming Language for Art and Design. He also made various presentations at events organised by the Computer Arts Society (CAS). These six computer-generated impact prints probably featured in one or more exhibitions organised by the Society in the early 1970s.
