Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Carved walnut candlestand in the form of a male terminal figure with a putto on his shoulders. The base comprises a stepped disc with four square blocks spaced at equal intervals around its perimeter. The blocks raise the disc approximately one inch off the ground and provide a platform for four goat's feet which support the tapering square section pedestal above (tapering at its bottom). The pedestal is carved with foliate reliefs on all four sides and turns into a half male figure at its top half. The figure is naked except for cloth draped around his waist. A putto sits on his shoulders and balances a tray on its head.
