Place of origin

This portfolio of eight black and white screenprints by Manfred Mohr (born 1938, Germany) was published by éditions média in 1976. Each screenprint was produced from a pen plotter drawing made by the artist between 1970 and 1975. A pen plotter is a mechanical device that holds a pen or brush and is linked to a computer that controls its movements. Pen plotter drawings can be very time consuming to produce. By transferring the unique plotter drawing into a screenprint, the artist was able to produce multiple copies of the image.

Each image in this set of eight prints was created using a computer program written by Manfred Mohr.

Chance and Control: Art in the Age of Computers (2018) MANFRED MOHR (born 1938) Clockwise, from top left: P-122, P-155, P-021, P-049 Paris, 1970–74 Manfred Mohr began his career as a jazz musician and expressionist painter. He started exploring geometric imagery in the mid 1960s, producing his first computer-generated drawings in 1969. In this series of prints produced from plotter drawings, the computer program creates a range of geometric shapes that echo some of his earlier artworks. Mohr went on to examine the possibilities presented by the cube. 4 screenprints after plotter drawings From the portfolio Scratch Code: 1970–1975, published by Éditions Média, 1976 Given by the American Friends of the V&A through the generosity of Patric Prince Museum no.
