Object history | There are several places named Lover's Leaps in the world. The Peak District has several and each has a tale to tell. The Lover’s Leap in Dovedale is a high rock about 120 feet (36 m) above the river. The story goes that a young woman threw herself off the rock when her lover jilted her. She merely landed in some thick bushes and got up and walked away. The jolt is said to have mended her broken heart and legend has it that she remained single and lived happily ever after. |
