Place of origin |
This photograph is part of a project documenting Boksburg and its suburbs, which Goldblatt called ‘a microcosm of white South Africa’. The only nonwhite person in this busy parking lot is the man collecting shopping trolleys. Although employed in a white suburb, he was not permitted to live there. He would have had to ride a bus to and from a black township and most likely would not have been able to afford a car of his own.
