Jameel Gallery 2 Dish with Phoenix in Landscape Iran 1600-1650 For this dish, an Iranian potter has reworked Chinese motifs from earlier periods. A large bird with streaming tail-feathers flies over a landscape. The bird is the Chinese fenghuang, usually called a 'phoenix' in English. In Iran it was identified with another mythical bird, the simurgh. Fritware painted under the glaze Museum no. 1102-1876 (2010)
