At first sight the silver thread embroidery with its coloured velvet insertions has a bejewelled appearance. The original catalogue description of this child's slipper mentions that it is decorated with 'floral scrolls', but they are in fact symmetrical patterns which are non representative.

Physical description | Child's backless, heel-less slipper. The blue velvet upper is decorated at the tabbed upper edge with silver thread, and on the vamp below with scrolling shapes in silver thread and red and pale yellow velvet. The heel-less sole is of a brownish red leather. |
