Jug of glazed buff-coloured fritware, with a bulbous body, slightly expanding neck, and curved handle. Painted in red, blue and green round the body with five blue pomegranate-shaped cartouches, each containing a symmetrical floral device and surrounded by sprays of flowers. The neck is similarly decorated on a smaller scale.

Painted in red, blue and green round the body with five blue pomegranate-shaped cartouches, each containing a symmetrical floral device and surrounded by sprays of flowers. Object history
Purchased in Istanbul in 1897 from Mrs Alice Whitaker, daughter and heir of William Henry Wrench (1836-96). Wrench was British consul in the city when he died, and he had formed a significant collection of Ottoman and Iranian objects while in the consular service.
