Object history
Robert Murdoch Smith bought this object for the South Kensington Museum (now the V&A) in Tehran in 1873. It was part of the first large consignment of historical objects he sent to the Museum from Iran and included over 100 examples of metalwork, ceramic, woodwork and textiles gathered from different local sources.
