Object history
This object was sold to the Museum in late 1896, through the Istanbul art-dealers Kevork Ispenian and Antoin Brimo (410 Grand Rue de Pera), as part of a larger consignment of ceramics, metalwork and woodwork. Caspar Purdon Clarke (then Director of the Art Museum) conducted the purchase, and described Ispenian as "the leading dealer in Pera" (V&A Archives).
