Object history | This is the original design for one of the plates in the series Incroyables et Merveilleuses, commissioned by Pierre La Mesangere, the editor of the Journal des Dames et des Modes, engraved (in reverse) by Georges-Jacques Gatine and published between 1810 and 1818. Of the 33 plates, 31 were drawn by Vernet. There are three impressions of this design (and two of E.3188-1991) in the V&A collections : E.109-1947, E.133-1947 (E.102-1947, E.127-1947, 23698.2 after E.3189-1991). |
