This design is closely connected with E.424-1951. It has many points of correspondence with the final design, as published in Vitruvius Britannicus, Vol 1, Pl 58, but the central dome and lateral turrets are missing, the Corinthian order is used instead of the Doric, and the entrance was afterwards re-designed.

Purchased from the Marquis of Bute at auction at Sotheby's (lot 19.8) on 23 May 1951 by the National Arts Collection Fund and given to the V & A.
