Object history note

The original Earth Day 1970 was initiated by the American Environment Foundation since which there have been many 'Earth Days' in the USA, but Denis Hayes, the project director in 1970, felt in 1990 that much of the action and legislation resulting from the early days, was beginning to be taken for granted and an effort should be made to revive public concern. This poster, commissioned as it is, from the artist who designed the Earth Day 1970 poster acts as a tribute to original fervour as well as a reminder that much is still to be done. For the Earth day 1970 poster see E.3035-1991.
