During the 1960s new anti-drug legislation was gradually introduced, culminating in the 1967 act which empowered the police to search any suspected drug users. The arrest of various heroes of the underground, including rock stars, and general harassment of all hippies, led to a number of 'legalise pot rallies', to protest against the infringement of individual liberty and the 'war' between generations."
