This witty design refers to the austere proverb Charity begins at home as well as to the famous image of a cook in an Edwardian poster advertising Edwards' Desiccated Soup (of which there is also an impression in the Museum's collection: inv. no. E.44-1973). Pen Dalton's design was a reminder in Britain in the early 1970s that egalitarian views should be maintained at home as well as in the workplace.

Portrait format poster printed in red yellow and black. Satirical interpretation of an Edwardian poster for Edwards' Desiccated Soups. Image of standing woman in white apron offering a plate of food to man seated by table on which there is a pile of books. He holds a book in one hand and points to a place on the table, for the woman to put the food, with the other. A banner with the caption floats out from a staff which the woman holds in the crook of her free arm.
