This witty design refers to the austere proverb Charity begins at home as well as to the famous image of a cook in an Edwardian poster advertising Edwards' Desiccated Soup (of which there is also an impression in the Museum's collection: inv. no. E.44-1973). Pen Dalton's design was a reminder in Britain in the early 1970s that egalitarian views should be maintained at home as well as in the workplace.
