Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Michael Leach, a retiring person who devoted himself quietly to pottery and spent little effort promoting himself or his work, was one of the sons of a leading studio potter, Bernard Leach, who founded a pottery at St Ives, Cornwall, in 1920. This pot was selected for the Museum by Michael Leach himself, who stated that he had made three further versions of it, each one a commission from a different person, a practice he did not like and which he did not intend to repeat. This pot he described as the 'original'.
