Engraving; numbered. One of seventeen plates from a florilegium or flower book. Each plate features botanical studies of flower heads and stems from a single type of flower arranged in a decorative, roughly symmetrical manner as if scattered on the page, among them: roses (plates 4 & 5); lilies (6) lily of the valley (7); sunflowers (8); sweet williams (10); anemones (11); iris (12 & 18); carnations (13 or 14); forget-me-not (15); daffodils (16); columbine (17); chinese carnations (19); African marigold (21); peonies (22); and campanula (23).
