This pommel, known as a kashira, and collar, known as a fuchi, for a sword-hilt are both made of iron and contain strong modelling. Each has been covered with gold, silver and copper incrustation depicting two lions and bamboo. In Japan decoration such as this is called iroe, which translates as 'coloured picture', referring to designs in various coloured metals.
