This poster is a caricature the Romanian politician Ion Iliescu (b.1930), the first elected Romanian president after the overthrow of the dictator Nicolae Ceausescu in December 1989. Ion Iliescu was president of Romania between 1990-1996 and 2000-2004. He was a founding member of FSN (Romanian Salvation Front). In 1992 a segment of FSN became the FDSN (National Salvation Democratic Front) and was later re-named the PDSR (Party of Social Democracy in Romania). The PDSR became the PSD (Social Democrat Party), and is now the biggest political party in Romania. Since 2006, Ion Iliescu has been the honorary president of the PSD. Ion Iliescu was a key player during the events of December 1989 and in Romanian political life afterwards. Together with intellectuals and political dissidents, he founded The Council of the Romanian Salvation Front, which assumed power in Romania with the support of the armed forces in December 1989. The poster's designer is Horatiu Malaele, an important Romanian cultural personality -actor, theatre director, writer and cartoonist.
