This is a caricature of the Romanian politician Ion Ratiu (1917-2000), a key personality in the Romanian political landscape after the 1989 revolution. He was one of the candidates for the presidential elections in 1990, standing for The National Peasants'-Christian Democrat Party (PNT-CD). A lawyer, journalist, philanthropist, writer and businessman, Ion Ratiu started his career in 1940 as chancellor at the Romanian Legation in London. He received political asylum in England after the communists came in power in Romania and remained in London until 1989 when he returned home to take an active part in social and political life. He was Deputy of the Chamber of Deputies in the Romanian Parliament in 1990 and Vice-president in 1996. The poster's designer is Horatiu Malaele, an important Romanian cultural personality - actor, theater director, writer and cartoonist.
