The FSN (Romanian Salvation Front) was the first post-communist political party established in Romania after the overthrow of the communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. In 1992, the FSN split into two other political parties, the FDSN and another faction that became The Democratic Party in 1993. Ion Iliescu was the first president of the FSN. During the 1990 elections in Romania the FSN gained the majority of seats in Parliament (67,53 %). The National Liberal Party (PNL) and Romanian Hungarian Democratic Union (UDMR) were the other successful parties. The initials of the party (FSN) are depicted at the centre of the poster in the colours of the national flag (red, yellow and blue). Above is a rose, the electoral symbol of the FSN. Beneath are the words: 'Liberty. Democracy. Dignity' representing the party's promises to the electorate.
