Place of origin |
This Romanian Ecological Movement (MER) election poster circulated during the 1990 elections - the first democratic elections in Romania following the overthrow of the communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. The poster represents a fir tree with a heart, holding the globe in one hand and a placard urging people to vote for the Romanian Ecological Movement in the other. The representation of the fir tree with a heart is repeated on the placard. The poster’s austere and modest graphics resemble those produced by early computer design programs. Underneath the fir tree character is the text ‘Some parties even promise you the Moon, we guarantee you…the Earth’. The doctrine of the party promoted the values of liberalism and social democracy and was concerned with ecological issues – such the protection of resources, sustainable development and finding answers to pollution.
