New Labour New Danger

Poster
1996-1997 (designed and printed)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

On this Conservative Party election poster devilish red eyes peer out of the darkness from behind a red curtain. Red is the colour associated with the Labour Party and the poster hints that there is something sinister behind the scenes of Labour politics. Another poster in the series featured Tony Blair, then the Leader of the Labour Party, with the same demonic red eyes.

The poster is an example of the ‘attack advertising’ which characterised the 1997 United Kingdom election campaigns. Both the Conservative and Labour Parties were criticised for negative campaigning.
