This is a silver medal made by Frank Bowcher after designs by Admiral Prince Louis of Battenberg. This medal was made to commemorate the Battle of Jutland, May 31st, 1916, and issued by Spink & Son Ltd. The oriceeds of the sale of this medal contributed to funds for a Naval Orphanage.

Frank Bowcher(1864-1938) was a medalist who was appointed Engraver at the Royal Mint in 1903. His work was influenced by contemporary French medalists.

Physical description
Obv., Inscription in eleven lines within an oak wreath. Rev., Legend within rope border. Upright trident with anchor below, White Ensign and Union flag crossed before it, shield suspended from the three staves, inscribed 31 May 1916.
