Garden of Delight from the series Objects of Desire

Photograph
1988 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

In Sarah Charlesworth's series Objects of Desire (1983-1988), photographs reproduced in books or magazines are cut from their contexts and re-photographed against flat colour grounds. Presented in matching lacquer frames, the seductively glossy photographs are paired into diptychs that comment on ways in which images function in mass culture. Here, images appropriated from travel and nature publications are juxtaposed into a representation of sexual desire.
