Object history
Laurent was active in Paris from the mid 1850s as a daguerreotypist. About 1857 he moved to Madrid. In collaboration with Jose Martinez Sanchez he developed and marketed a new photographic paper which he called 'papel leptografico'. This paper was said to have a longer life prior to exposure and to have equal or better results in clarity and varied tonality of the print. Laurent and Company specialized in the documentation of Spanish non-monumental national treasures.
