Notes: The tortoise is possibly a preliminary sketch for an illustration to "The hare and the Tortoise" in Aesop's Fables, published by heinemann, London, 1912. The same tortoise and a similar lobster appear in the illustration "And yet I wasn't happy!" (Little Folks) E.2983-1990 in CATALOGUE OF PRINTS.
