Object history note

The Body Shop, owned by Anita and Gordon Roddick and founded in 1976, has been notable during the 1980's for its positive attitude to environmental conservation. It has campaigned against vivisection and abuse of animals and more recently (1989-90) has highlighted, through advertising, such as is seen on this bag, other social and environmental problems such as the lack of childcare facilities provided through central government for working mothers.
