Object history | The attribution to Thomas Lainé, architect and sculptor (wood carver) to the King, rests on the similarity of these drawings to four surviving drawings in the Bibliotheque Nationale and in a private collection. Two of the Bibliotheque Nationale drawings are preparatory for a very rare set of prints posthumously published in 1740, which share the same viewpoints, ornamental treatment and handling as these drawers. It is possible that this group of drawings was also prepared for an unexecuted set of engravings. |
