Object history note

This design for the costume of a buffoon was created for the ballet Le Soleil de minuit with music by Rimsky-Korsakov and choreography by Massine which was first produced in Geneva on 20 December 1915. This productions saw not only Massine's début as a choreographer but also the first work of Larionov as a ballet designer, and both were very successful.
