Napoleons Apotheosis Anticipated, or the Wise Men of Leipsic sending Boney to Heaven before his time!!! (BM:S.10761) British 1807? Caricature of Napoleon suspended by the neck by a nude figure, resting in the clouds representing Orion. Lettered and inscribed with title, inscribed with captions and Woodward del Price one Shillg Colored Pubd,.Sept 15th by Thos, Tegg No 111 Cheapside London and At the German University of Leipsic, it was decreed that the Constellation called Orions Belt shoud hereafter be named Napoleon in Honor of that Hero. - Query - Did the Wise Men of Leipsic mean it as an honor or a reflection on the turbulent spirit of Boney, as the rising of Orion is generaly accompanied with Storms and Tempests, for which reason he has the sword in his hand. Numbered 224. With the mark of the collection of Frank A. Gibson (d.1976) on the back.
