Object history
Exhibitions: Collecting for the Future 6 June - 12 August 1990 Victoria and Albert Museum

Haring's earliest work in the form of graffiti was executed on the blank poster hoardings (never on posters, walls or trains) of the New York Subway system, although he was not a poster designer as such, and subsequently established himself as a gallery artist with an international reputation. He originally gave away copies of this poster in New York's Central Park and later sold it at his own retail outlet, the Pop Shop.
