Ove Arup & Partners Designs for a fabric roof at the Aztec West Centre, Avon British, 1985 Pen and ink on tracing paper Although trained as an engineer, Sir Ove Arup (1895-1988) and the firms he founded have had an enormous influence and direct effect on the architecture of this century. Working, often uncredited, with almost all the major British architects since the 1930s and many more worldwide, Arups have turned concepts into buildings. Although primarily engineers Arups have latterly also become architects in their own right. Aztec West is a business park strategically located at the junction of the M4 and M5. It was inteded to promote the estate by employing well known and innovative architects and engineers to provide a working environment of a much higher standard than most business parks. E.447-1990
