This furniture design was produced from the radical Alchimia design studio and was exhibited at the 17th Triennale di Milano. The following year it was made as a cabinet entitled 'Calamobio' in the Nuova Alchimia Collection 1985. Studio Alchimia, which was set up in 1976 by Alessandro and Adriana Guerriero, was a centre for innovatory design. It examined mass culture and communication rather than the technological aspects of design and produced works rather than merely talked about them.
Historical context
Alchimia was set up in 1976 by Alessandro and Adriana Guerriero. During its 16 years the Studio invited other radical designers including Alssandro Mendini and Ettore Sottsass to design with them.
