Goblet

17th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The glassmakers of the Venetian island of Murano excelled in making thinly blown and elegantly shaped objects in the finest colourless glass. This wineglass is so thin it looks almost weightless. The octagonal-shaped and strongly everted, or turned out, rim makes this glass extremely impractical to use. This might well have been the main reason why this fragile piece has survived for more than three centuries.
