    N 22. 5. 4. Wide apron. Blouse. Edge of (?). Green. Head scarf. Embroidery in dark red. Bottom corners of apron and border of the skirt in dark green. Woman's jacket dark green light green as ribbons. Shawl. 2 green squares change for dark blue. Blouse embroider with orange. Bottom corners. Instead of red orange. Boots have to be chosen according to the tone of every costume.
Object history
This costume design was created for an adaptation for ballet of Mussorgsky's opera based on the story by Gogol. The earliest version with décor and costumes by Goncharova was staged at the Théâtre des Champ-Élysées in 1926. This drawing is for a later production given by the Ballets Russes de Paris at the Salle Pleyel, Paris in August 1940.
Purchased from the artist in 1961.
