This bronze medal was struck to commemorate the sixtieth year of Queen Victoria's reign. The obverse depicts the Queen while the reverse bears the inscription ARMY 1837-1897 NAVY and depicts a man-of-war at sea, a lighthouse, and a sailing vessel. In the centre there is a flagstaff with the Union jack surmounted by the Royal crest. Below this the Royal arms are displayed.

Medal, bronze, struck from a die. Obv: VICTORIA D: G : BRITT: REGINA F: D: IND: IMP: IN. COMMEMOR. AN. REG. SEXAGESIMI MDCCCXCVII. Crowned and laureated bust of Queen Victoria to left. Signed on the truncation F B. Rev: ARMY 1837-1897 NAVY. A man- of- war at sea, a lighthouse, and a sailing vessel; in the centre, a flagstaff with the union jack surmounted by the royal crest. Below, the royal arms between a mural and a naval crown. Signed SPINK & SON LONDON.
