This bronze medal was struck to commemorate the sixtieth year of Queen Victoria's reign. The obverse depicts the Queen while the reverse bears the inscription GOD BLESS OUR QUEEN 1837-1897 CAPE COLONY. There is also a shield of arms of the colony surrounded by a wreath above, the Royal arms.

Medal, bronze, struck from a die. Obv: VICTORIA QUEEN AND EMPRESS TO COMMEMORATE THE 60TH YEAR OF HER MAJESTY'S REIGN. Crowned and laureated bust of Queen Victoria to left. Signed F.BOWCHER. F. Rev. GOD BLESS OUR QUEEN 1837-1897 CAPE COLONY. A shield of arms of the colony surrounded by a wreath; above, the royal arms; at the sides, crowned mongrams VRI. Signed SPINK LONDON.
