Petrarch and Laura

18th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

These reliefs representing Francesco Petrarca(A.4-1916) and Lura(A.4A-1916) are casts from two marble reliefs. It is difficult to assess the probable quality of the original reliefs from these casts, but they may have been the work of a minor Florentine sculptor active in the fifteenth century. These casts were probably made in the second half of the eighteenth century, when the original reliefs enjoyed their highest reputation.
