Etching entitled 'The Shadow of Opposition' featuring on the left Charles James Fox, Edmund Burke and Richard Brinsley Sheridan and on the right, Alexander Wedderburn (Lord Loughborough), David Murray (Viscount Stormont) and Edward Smith Stanley (Lord Derby). The subject refers to whether the impeachment of Hastings was to be according to the rules of the Courts of Law or of the Law of Parliament. The six members and not the partially visible Speaker of the House and Lord Chancellor have been aquatinted to resemble shadows.
