Satirical print showing the Empress Eugénie making her escape from the Tuileries. The empress is holding an open fan in her left hand and clutching a box of diamonds under right arm. A chamber pot inscribed with the words 'Cusine Imperiale' is hurled from the right. Print from a set of caricatures, broadsheets and illustrations in ten volumes. Each volume is half-bound in red leather, gold tooled and stamped with imperial emblems, title etc.

She evaded the mob which was breaking in at the front of the palace by leaving through a disused gallery of the Louvre. Lithograph. E.336-1962(27/05/1971-10/10/1971)
Historical context
The scene depicted took place on the evening of 3 September 1871. The Empress evaded the mob which was breaking in at the front of the palace by leaving through a disused gallery of the Louvre and was helped in her difficult journey to England by her American dentist, Dr Evans.
