Mug of porcelain, cylindrical in shape and with a loop handle, and transfer-printed in black enamel with a bust portrait of Colonel John Manners, Marquis of Granby, and flanked by figures of Fame and Mars, and above it is a cupid with a laurel wreath, and Fame has a trumpet and a laurel branch, and Mars is seated and fully armed with a spear and shield.

| Object history | The engraving is from a plate by Hancock, and the bust portrait is copied from an engraving by Richard Houston, published in 1760, after a painting by Sir Joshua Reynolds. The mug was formerly thought to commemorate the victory at Minden in 1759, however Errol Manners has convincingly suggested that the Marquis's fame dates from his victory at the Battle of Warburg, 1st August, 1760. Purchased by Lady Charlotte Schreiber from Wareham, London, for £10 in July 1870 |
