Physical description
Napoleon III depicted as a peacock, with a sash lettered '2 Décembre, 1852'. To his right are several bags of gold, one labelled 'Budjet de La Guerre' and another 'Impôts'. Below the image runs the caption. Print from a set of caricatures, broadsheets and illustrations in ten volumes. Each volume is half-bound in red leather, gold tooled and stamped with imperial emblems, title etc.

Louis Jaugey Napoleon III struts resplendent as a peacock with a sash lettered with the date on which he took the title Emperor, across his breast. To his right are several bags of gold, a reference to the heavy taxes imposed to raise money for his unsuccessful quest for 'La Gloire' abroad.
