  • Ernest-Baptiste Leveillé had a glass-making and selling business at 74 Boulevard Haussmann, and later in rue Coquillière, Paris. He was a member of the Paris 'art-glass' fraternity and a pupil (later partner) of Eugène Rousseau, one of the movement's founders. This piece was made after 1885 when Leveillé took over Rousseau's workshop. The glass was made, possibly, by either Appert Frères or at Clichy and decorated in Paris. This vase is in mottled and splashed glass imitating agate.
  • VASE 77-1890 'American and European Art and Design 1800-1900' In 1885 Léveillé bought F.E. Rousseau's glass workshop where he had been a pupil, combining this with his continuation of their jointly owned retail shop in the Boulevard Haussman. In the glassworks he adopted many of Rousseau's techniques including the production of crackled (craquelé) glass which is formed by plunging red hot glass into cold water and then reheating it and re-forming it by blowing and other techniques.(1987-2006)
